Brahmousin Breed Information

For those interested in breeding and registering these cattle, the Council offers Lifetime Memberships that allow persons committed to the success of Brahmousin cattle to enjoy reduced rates for services of the association. Lifetime members also vote on directors and other matters that come before the Council.

The first Brahmousin cattle to be registered belonged to Daryl Wiggins in Marble Falls, Texas. A multiple embryo transfer from a French-imported Limousin dam, Gloria, during the late 1970s resulted in six heifers and three bull calves which formed the Limousin base. The stock was then cross bred to Brahman cattle achieving an F-1 cross, and further crosses over a broader base led to the 5/8-3/8 purebred.

The Brahmousin breed blends the best of Limousin and Brahman characteristics. Purebred Brahmousin are classified as five-eighths Limousin and three-eighths Brahman. This mix has been found to be the most widely accepted and most useful for the majority of the United States. However, the American Brahmousin Council offers a flexible program that allows animals that are not purebred to be recorded as percentages as long as they are at least one-quarter Limousin and one-quarter Brahman. It is important to note, that in order to be recorded as a purebred Brahmousin, the animal must be sired by a registered purebred or fullblood Limousin bull, registered Brahman bull or a registered purebred Brahmousin bull.

The American Brahmousin Council, Inc., (ABC) is the breed association for Brahmousin cattle. First established as a committee within the North American Limousin Foundation, ABC has grown in size and scope. Today, the ABC registers and transfers Brahmousin cattle from it's office in Whitesboro, Texas.

Brahmousin cattle offer beef producers a wide array of genetic options so they can customize the cattle to their environment. By varying the percentage of Limousin and Brahman blood, cattlemen can select bulls and females with the appropriate amount of Brahman blood that provides them with the best fit for their environment and customer base. The purebred Brahmousin fits the best for most parts of the nation.

Today, with ABC's growing membership, availability and selection has never been better. Brahmousin's largest concentrations are in Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Florida. However, the breed is found in many other parts of the United States. Find out why Brahmousin is your answer to today's cattle industry concerns. Contact the American Brahmousin Council, P. O.
